ABSOLUTE
E.M.T.
This heroic title is reserved for
those brave individuals who are ready to respond to any call - day
or night... They are
able to treat injuries and illness efficiently and effectively
through intense training, dedication, and lightning quick
response... Their commitment to the community insures the safety and
well being for all.
At all levels of emergency services, it takes a strong
desire to help those in need, and to serve the community in which we
live. If you have that
desire, we can train you!
· EMT Basic: You must first attend an accredited college such as
Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (WITC) in New
Richmond for training.
The EMT course is about 148 hours. You will be instructed and
tested using national EMT curriculum from the US Department of
Transportation, and the State of Wisconsin. Your course and text
books are paid by the service upon successful completion of class
and licenser through the service by the State of Wisconsin.
Forty-eight hours into the course, you’ll start responding to calls
with the ambulance crews, and begin our Field Training Program with
an officer "FTO".
Classes at WITC change
throughout the year, but usually are held week nights two times
weekly during the semester.
EMT -
Intermediate Technician: Was
Wisconsin's Basic IV Technician. A course is offered to Basic
students which allows administration of additional medications and
IV fluids.
EMT Intermediate-99: Our new level of
service which started June 1, 2006. This level requires an
additional 600+ hours of education and clinical
requirements. Approximately 12 additional medications are added at
this level for control of pain and ACLS care, approximately 95% of a
full paramedic in pre-hospital care.
· First Responder will need to complete a course of about 60 hours. The
course is paid for those individuals hired by the service. It covers all the basics of
patient care and CPR for the First Responder. We use First
Responders in out lying areas of our district, they are extremely
important in the chain of survival!
· Explorers are young adults 16 to 20 interested in becoming an
EMT, may explore the opportunities in emergency services and health
care through our Explorer post #1224. You will be First Responder
Trained, including CPR and ambulance operations. We take field trips, and
hold monthly training with you. You may earn credit for
school, and serve with EMT’s at school events such as football
games, the County Fair, and special events such as Dutch Days.
After training, the requirements from you include a
monthly training session held the third Wednesday of each month
at 18:30 hours in Baldwin. EMT’s are required to submit 72
hours of call time per month to remain active. First Responders are
assigned shifts as they are available. While considered part
time, EMT’s are paid for call time and run time. You will receive
equipment and uniforms at all levels of the service.
Your desire to help people is
the only thing you need to complete the application. An officer will
be in touch with you to set up an interview in which all of your
questions will be answered.
We hope you’ll see this is a demanding, but rewarding way to
help your family, friends, and neighbors.
Please call, email, for more
information, or go to the application page at the left. With
the rapid growth of the area, and a steady increase in the number of
requests for help, we are always looking for more EMT's or
first responders. Go home at night and say "TODAY,
I MADE A DIFFERENCE!"
