"Exploring provides young men and women with life
experiences, skills and opportunities to explore careers and
lifetime interests. Explorers will investigate, learn, experience,
be challenged, and build desirable qualities of character while
making new friends”
Our Explorer unit is open to young men and women
interested in the medical or emergency services fields. We work with
the school district to teach the students CPR and basic first aid.
Some of the students go one to First Responder classes, or right
into EMT basic classes through the technical colleges. We start a
new group of students each school year.
Our students must follow academic standards, and
may earn credits for community service. We also use the explorers
for extra help during community and sports events.

EXPLORER TEAM
COMPETES IN MINNESOTA
On
March 6, 2004, a team of four explorers competed in a first
responder competition held in Spring Lake Park MN against 25 other
teams. We placed 11th which is excellent for our first ever
competition.
The
team went through three skill stations and a written test. In order
to prepare for this event the explorers spent several hours a week
practicing skills and group study of the
handbook.
Our
Explorer team included Mica Anderson, Justin Kongshaug, Travis
Larson, Jenny Davis, Lindsey Rykal, and was lead by Post advisors
Brain Posner, EMT-I.

I was told by one of our medics at Life
Link that our explorers "rocked" at the competition. His
girlfriend was a judge, and apparently, she was
impressed.

educational camp, this past spring the camp was held in Amery, WI at
a retreat. The Explorers spent three full days in classes, hands on
